Sala Cafe
This cafe is actually our first place to visit upon landing in Chiang Mai and it gave us a good impression of the city! About one hour drive from Chiang Mai airport, we stopped by this cafe for a break and lunch as it was on the way for our journey up to Mon Jam.
The main entrance of Sala Cafe in Mae Rim is quite inviting and sets the tone for the charming atmosphere inside. You'll find a pathway adorned with lush greenery, leading up to the entrance, which is often surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. The combination of natural beauty and thoughtful design makes the entrance welcoming and picturesque, encouraging visitors to explore the serene and cozy environment inside.
The interior is super cozy, felt so like home. Love this wooded furniture & decoration of hanging lanterns that are lying around and hanging around too. It is just like visiting a friend's house.
The cafe is praised for its excellent quality food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. It's a great place to relax, enjoy a meal, and take in the lovely garden and natural scenery. They also have a variety of drinks, including coffee with plant-based milk options.
The cafe also has lovely outdoor seating, allowing guests to enjoy their meals amidst nature. It's a delightful blend of indoor and outdoor spaces that truly captures the essence of a peaceful retreat.
The menu is rather extensive, and the price is reasonable, it is made up of Thai and Western food that is good for my group.
Our first meal in Thailand is made up of ;
There is a small corner that is selling souvenirs, do take a look, something might catch your eyes.
Overall, the service is also good, we like this place very much. This is a perfect place for a break while having fun in Mae Rim.
JinJu Orange Farm
The first stop for us to visit upon descending the mountain was to pluck oranges!
The staffs here are able to converse in English that make our fun easier!
Entrance fee THB80 per adult and you can pluck as many oranges as you want but it cost THB80 per kg and blackberries cost THB60 per kg.
Coffee stop is located immediately after we enter the farm, though the coffees are not fantastic however it was decent and staff are very polite, the seatings are cozy with some good photography stops.
The DNA in us is working and we start to snap away happily.
After the drinks, me with Pig, Mr Dane, Cindy Mr and Mrs Lee - we went deeper into the orchard for the best orange.
These baskets are for our loots, hand weave rattan basket - immediately we are all transformed into orange farmers.
If you see below photo deeper, there is a man lazing in it - that's Khun Chai!
Chanced upon a big group of monks passing by, whom I bowed with respect.
Some nice spots for photos..
Toilet is located at the car park area - to my surprise - they are super clean and shines!
Here are what we had, 1.5kg of oranges - about 21 of them and few blackberries which staff gave us for free as it will only be ready for harvesting end of the month.
Merino Sheep Farm
A Merino sheep farm specializes in raising Merino sheep, a breed known for their exceptionally fine and soft wool. Originating from Spain, Merino sheep have been prized for their high-quality wool for centuries. These sheep are medium-sized and can be either horned or polled (without horns).
Merino sheep farms focus on producing wool that is highly valued in the textile industry for its softness, warmth, and moisture-wicking properties. The farms often provide a range of products made from Merino wool, including clothing, blankets, and other textiles.
Upon entry, Mrs Lee cannot hold her excitement, happily pose for a shot.
Entry fee per person is THB150 and come with a portion of sheep's food & a complimentary popcorn.
Everyone behaves like a kid and rush to the entrance to the fields.
These sheeps are very smart, they saw we are holding carrots and came rushing over to surround us. Very nice environment to relax and chill and also to feed the sheeps.
The service at Merino Farm in Mae Rim is generally well-received by visitors. Guests often praise the friendly and knowledgeable staff who are always ready to assist and provide information about the farm and its activities.
At the corner of the field, I saw 2 alpacas - oooo .. I been wanting to meet and pet one and finally I can feel the long neck and fluffy fur that feels like a sheep.
Despite the UV level was pretty high, there are some shady seating areas designated for visitors.
At the cafe, there is one smart sheep followed us up, hoping for some feeds and even stealing from our tables.
The complimentary popcorn is salted base, it goes well with the drinks we ordered.
Lunch Zombie Cafe
Zombie Cafe in Mae Rim is a unique and quirky destination that offers a fun and adventurous experience for visitors. The cafe is set in a beautiful natural environment, with seating areas by a creek where you can dine with your feet in the water.
The cafe features a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, including hammocks and a treehouse, providing different perspectives of the surrounding nature.
Cross the river, and we will reach the cafe.
Loads of seating options: indoors, up in a treehouse, outdoors in the shade beside the river, even in the cool water of the river but not today as the water is muddy.
We opted for indoor seating with aircon and extra fans blowing on us, staff can speak a little English, they are friendly and offer good services and tried their very best to accommodate.
The service at Zombie Cafe in Mae Rim is generally well-regarded by visitors. Guests appreciate the friendly and attentive staff who are always ready to help and provide information about the cafe's unique features and menu. The delicious food we ordered, all of us are very happy with them.
See, the priceless smiles.
Uncle Pong's Peacock Farm
AKA Pong Yang Farm too, this mini zoo farm is located in the lower parts of Mae Rim.
I am happy that we are able to visit this farm as everyone are happy to play with little animals.
Uncle Pong Peacock Farm is a popular tourist destination located in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, Thailand. It's known for its beautiful peacocks, other exotic birds and other small animals.
Visitors can interact with the animals, take photos, and enjoy the scenic surroundings. The farm also offers activities like feeding the animals and exploring the lush greenery. It's a great spot for nature lovers and families looking for a fun and unique experience.
Entry fee is THB200 per adult and come with a basket of vegetables for the animals.
The staff here are friendly, helpful and English speaking, this staff helped to hold my mum while leading us to the show area.
Here are the shows on ducks and pigs diving into water!
It started with ducklings, who came out from their coop, walking on the platform path and dive into the small pool below and made their way to the dry area where visitors can walk over to feed them before they made their way back to their coop.
Next, are the cute fatty piglets, who also came out from their pen, walking on the platform path and dive into the small pool below and made their way to the dry area where visitors can walk over to feed them before they made their way back to their pen.
When the piglets are back to sty, visitors are welcome to proceed for feedings.
Next, we have the kiddy goats that are also walking through the platform and back to their shed and they will be coming near to the visitors waiting for feed.
Feeding these super cute kiddy goats.
There is also a rabbit hutch where visitors are welcome to enter to pet & feed them.
Roosters in pen - some are really charming; some are cute looking.
Peacock cage - they are super beautiful; it is like they are all painted with beautiful pictures on their back.
I was hoping to see them opening their feathers but as per advice from the ranger, they are currently shredding feathers and will be ready for mating next month.
When a peacock spreads its feathers, it is typically a display of courtship or a show of dominance. . The spreading of feathers is an attempt by the peacock to attract a mate or intimidate other peacocks.
Lastly, we shall have the swans and the ducks waddling in the pond.
Overall, we like this place very much, staff are friendly, ranger is eager to share knowledge, animals are roaming around, enclosures are big enough for the animals, there are flowers and plants too.
The farm offers a peaceful retreat with beautiful surroundings, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
I highly recommend this place to everyone; it was kind of sad to leave this place.
