Summer Holidays in Saeby Denmark

“If you’re not barefoot, then you’re overdressed.”

A brief introduction of Sæby - a town and a seaport located at the east coast of  the Northern Denmark. It has a population of 12,000. This picturesque little town by the sea, Saeby is well preserved with many yellow painted houses. This is one of the oldest towns in the Northern Jutland and the very first inhabitants settled here during the Viking Age.

Summer in Denmark starts in the month of June and ends in August. The morning is chilly , the afternoon is warm and the nights are cooler. It is like having Spring & Summer in a day. The days are also much longer in the Summer than other seasons. The sun set at about 1030pm, totally dark at 1115pm and rise at about 430am.

Summer holidays usually start on the last Saturday in June and lasts until the beginning of August. This is the time where the Danes will flock to the beaches, check into their self-owned summer houses, or just rent one much advance. Most Danes own a Summer house in addition to their usual residence.

Today, we are very lucky, Jeppe invited us to stay at his dad's Summer House at not a single cost. I really felt very grateful that Jeppe is always trying his best as a big brother ( he is younger than boss ), making sure we the foreigners get to enjoy as much as they do. He even went to the extra mile ferrying us to and fro, he really spoilt us deeply.
The summer house is in Saeby beach, where we visited in February this year as Jeppe invited to his house for a dinner. I remembered the waves turned into ice that formed through the coastline.

Pleased to introduce our home for the next few days - this Summer House is located in Nordre Strandvej Saeby.

1 minute walk to the main road, the area is quiet which I guessed we are too early for the Summer Holidays. There are 2 verandas, one is at the front door, the other is at the back door where I can see partial sea view or having a BBQ.

There are 2 bedrooms, toilet is big with washing machine and standing shower.

The living room and island kitchen blended in together that makes the whole place very bright and spacious.

Really cozy and well decorated living room from which you could enjoy the whole day lazing on the couch. Love the high ceilings with glass window where ample sun ray spread throughout the house. The vinyl flooring is so comfortable to step on barefooted. Free internet, quiet area, close to the sea and near bus stops to Aalborg and Frederikshavn.

5 minutes' walk to the beautiful child friendly beach, another 8 minutes' walk along the coastal, it will lead you to the harbour where most restaurants situated. beautiful and peaceful walks along the beach.

***** Summer homes are always fully equipped with kitchen utensils, crockery, pillows, and duvets but you normally need to bring your own bed linen.

We are heading out for dinner, Jeppe strongly recommend us to try Bistro V located at the harbour.

From this picture above, where we are standing to snap this picture "belongs to the beach area", after the bridge, it is "harbour area". Directly across the beach, Bistro V is at the left, local ice cream shop is at the right and behind the ice cream shop is a fish shop.

More pictures here before we crossed over the bridge.

Food are fresh and nice. The ambience is good, there are indoor seating & outing seating too.

In the Sæby area you find some of Denmark’s most child-friendly beaches.
The gentle Kattegat sea, the shallow water and the finest white sandy beaches attract many families with children
The shallow water is perfect for children playing with water. On the beach they can build sand castles, find sea shells and many more.

Above photos are taken while we were walking back towards the Summer House, the evening ray from the sun at 9pm.

These are the photos I took on the beach in February vs June, where the coastal line was frozen.
This is my blog on my first visit to Saeby : Exploring Saeby @ Denmark

See the time on the watch, it is dusk at 11pm, the sun just went down not long ago.

From the summer house, it took us about 15 minutes by foot to reach the town center, and we saw this place along the way... It is totally like the fairytale. We even stood here to adore this scene for 10 minutes.

And I am lucky to get a magnet bearing the same scene.

This is the how the manhole cover look like in Saeby, it is actually the design of the icon statue here - The lady of the sea.

And this is the Lady of The Sea ( got the photo from google) - the sea god that protecting the fishermen.

Above photos are the town of Saeby, though the town center is small, making up via a few streets with Algade as the old main street.
The whole place is well preserved from the yesteryears. Take note that most shops are closed by 2pm on Saturday & closed on Sundays. These photos were taken after 4pm on a Saturday.

See the difference, above these 2 photos are taken at 11am on a Saturday - in total, we visited Saeby thrice. It is only at the third visit then we have the chance to feel the town. Boss and I stood out from the crowd as we were the only 2 Asians.

Café Mathilde

This is such a cozy café, Boss and I decided to chill for a coffee and "Shooting Stars". The café is being decorated in Parisian theme. Even the washroom is so upbeat!.

As I was heading to the washroom, I discovered that this is not just a café, there is a shop inside a café, selling a lot of vintage stuff. This is such an amazing place. If I have the opportunity to visit Saeby again, I will visit this café

Above are more photos we collected while we were walking around Saeby.

Since we are already at the Top of Denmark, we will explore Frederikshavn & Skagen in next few days as well. Please look out for my next blogs on Skagen and Frederikshavn.
