Tam Sui (淡水) @ TAIPEI (台北)😋🍹🎉😴

"Let your smile change the world, but don't let the world change your smile."

Welcome back to the 5th blog of my Taiwan trip, I hope you enjoyed my previous blogs of Zhong Zheng, Wan Hua , Shi Lin , Da Tong , & DaAN

Tamsui is a seaside district in Taipei, named after Tamsui River which means "fresh water".
Due to its proximity to the mainland China, it became a major fishing and trade port to The Qing dynasty and eventually opened the port to the foreign merchants trading with tea, coal, opium, herbs, fabric, etc. By the 19 TH century, Tamsui become the largest port in Taiwan. Today, this place is flock with crowds from the locals and tourist. Thanks to the MRT line, Tamsui is very accessible, it took a mere 50min train ride from Taipei station to Tamsui station.
Personally, I visit Tamsui a few times and had been to most attractions here but since my first visit to Tamsui Old Street, I was captivated by the charm and today, I am glad to be back here again.

Tamsui MRT station
Tamsui station is the terminal station of the red line from Taipei station and the journey took about 40minutes.
Located right next to Tamsui river, once you are out of the station, you are literally on the promenade of Tamsui riverside. There is a bicycle rental shop here where you can start your ride here.
At the station, there are several shops like 7-11, bakery and bubble tea.

Tamsui Ageh(淡水老牌阿給 創始店)

Absolutely originally made in Tamsui!

The name A-Geh come from Japanese word "Aburaage" which means fried beancurd (Taupok)

I ordered the one with soy sauce & a bowl of fish ball soup to go along.

Glass noodles and fish paste6y are stuffed into fried beancurd (Taupok) and cooked in pork stew and steamed to perfect texture and dipped over sweet chilli or soy sauce.

There are quite a few shops here selling this item, but this shop is the most famous here and it is located up in a hill 15 minutes' walk away from the MRT station.

Tamsui Walking Street
Located just 2 minutes' walk away from Tamsui MRT Station and is the 2nd street by the river, it is atmospheric to just to walk and browse around. There are plenty of shops selling food, souvenir, claw machines, old school game, fashion, retro and many more.

淡水巧味麥芽花生糖

Peanut bits with soft malt candy that has the shelf life of 7 days at room temperature.
This is very aromatic, a box of 10 pieces and I finished half within 10 minutes.
It is not 'THAT" sweet at all, it tastes soft, light, smooth and melted away in my mouth. The shopkeepers are very friendly and nice, this yummy is worth a visit.

Tamsui Riverside
One of the most leisure things to do here is to stroll along the riverside which stretches for less than 2km. Located at the next street of the main walking street, this place is neatly lined up with restaurants, cafes, souvenir and retails shops. This place gets quite crowded during the magical moment of sunset.
Facing the straits, we bought some snacks and found a spot to chill about.
Though it is Springtime, but the air is very cooling and windy.

BaFangYunJi
A classic chain store that scattered all over Taiwan and it has been on my "Must Eat" list for many years.
Beside selling different fillings of dumplings is few kinds of cooking, there are noodles, street foods, soup and soya milk.

Here what we swept in TamSui , all traditional preserved fruits.

Our happy times end here, as it is really very cold, and he is asking for a massage.
