Scenic Spiez @ Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Switzerland

"Travel as an adult and explore like a kid."

Welcome back to the 11th blog of our trip to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Switzerland
Hope you like my last blog on "Iseltwald", here we are going to continue to spread our footprints in the Suisse landscapes - Spiez.

Spiez
Spiez is located on the shore of Lake Thun. It’s situated in the Bernese Oberland region and is known for its picturesque landscape. It is well recognized as one of the most breathtaking coves in the Europe.
Besides being located at the edge of Lake Thun, the quiet village is also surrounded with awesome views of mountains and under the shadow of a gorgeous 1,000-year-old castle.
With a population of near 13,000 people, the official language of Spiez is German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.

Do you know ? Heard that some public toilets in the downtowns are fitted with neon blue lightings, so that the addicts will not be able to find their veins clearly.

Spiez Train Station
We took a train from Interlaken West station for a direct 15-minute ride here to Spiez.
The train station stood at the elevation of 630m above the sea level, though it is not big, but is being well served by several train lines. It is easy to navigate about regardless of where you’re coming from. There are direct trains to Spiez from Interlaken, Zurich, Basel, and Bern, but you will need to switch trains if you’re traveling to Spiez from a different location.

The moment we alight from the train, we were greeted with this view:

And happened that the toilet here is equipped with neon blue lightings. It was really a disturbance to my eye, and I was grumbling to a lady who happened in the toilet, and she told me that it is placed to hinder those self-abusers.

There is a "tunnel" exit after the toilet where you will be drawn to approach:

The bigger view as received as we came out:

And this is how Spiez station looks like:

The accessibilities by Spiez Station:

Spiez Park
Just a mere 5 minutes' walk from Spiez Station, this park contains a mini playground and some tables and benches.
We come here for this sign:

And it is on our way walking down to the harbor.

Spiez Harbor
The water is transparent and turquoise to be a harbor!
This is a nice little port surrounded by F&B outlets, hotels, family attractions such as outdoor pool, minigolf, park, children's games, garden chess and etc. It is a nice place to spend some relaxing time here, especially during summer. Below are photos here from various angles.

Lake Thun
Lake Thun is an Alpine Lake in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland named after the city of Thun, its surface area stretches 48.3KM and it is one of the largest lakes in Switzerland. Surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of the Bernese Oberland the lake is dotted with charming medieval towns, mountain's backdrop and the 1000 years old Schloss Spiez (castle). The view is thoroughly straight cut out from a fairytale. During Summer, the turquoise-colored lake invites people to participate in various water sports like swimming, windsurfing and canoeing.

Schloss Spiez
The handsome castle that had been guarding Spiez for 1000 year is a must come places for all.
Due to time constraint, we skipped visiting the interior. After done some google checks, it is said that this castle reflects the old lives of the locals. It was originally a medieval castle for a local Count and became a residence of a nobleman.
The medieval castle boasts a beautifully landscaped garden, a castle museum, and a 39-meter tower with an observation deck that offers magnificent panoramic views of Lake Thun and the lush hills that surround it.

And here the photos we have while overlooking Lake Thun:

Schloss Kirche Spiez
AKA The Castle Church which is built on the complex of Schloss the Castle is surrounded with a garden of flowers and herbs.
The fairytale Romanesque church is the oldest building in compound of Spiez's castle. The crypt of the church dated back to 7th century while most parts of the church are built in the 10th century.
There is no admission fee to enter both garden and church.

The stairs from long ago....

Spiez Vineyard
Spiez's own vineyards, is centered by the handsome castle that produce some of the world’s finest wines.
We visited on a dry winter so the vines of not ready for viewing, and not be surprised there are 60 different types of grapes in Spiez.

Our happy times in Spiez shall end here.
