"When Fairytale Comes Alive"
Welcome back to the 10th blog of our trip to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Switzerland
Hope you like my previous blogs on Lauterbrunnen and here we are going to continue to spread our footprints in the Suisse landscapes of Iseltwald - the scene for the KDrama - Crash Landing onto You.
Iseltwald
Iseltwald is a village and municipality on the southern shore of Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. Politically, the municipality is located in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district of the canton of Bern.
There is no train station in Iseltwald so from Interlaken, it is either to visit via 38 minutes ferry or 20 minutes bus ride.
It is easy to explore on foot through the small lanes and admire the beautiful sights.
With a population of 500, this tiny fairy-tale village is littlered with picturesque Alpine log houses, side-walk cafes, restaurants and shops. On top of that, there are views of snows-capped mountains in all directions, the serenity we received was so healing to our hearts and minds. Iseltwald is surrounded by these 3 mountains: Eiger, Jungfrau & Monch.
DO take some time to explore the place because Iseltwald is more than "Crash Landing onto You".
Do you know ?: Using a power hose to clean your car is “basically forbidden” in Switzerland, due to fears of polluting local water supplies and the wider environment,
There is no train station in Iseltwald and the easiest way is taking public bus direct one way from Interlaken OST bus station to Iseltwald bus station.
Alternatively you may take the ferry from Interlaken to Iseltwald, but it is closed in winter.
The ferry points to board the ship in Interlaken is located just outside (The other end) of Interlaken OST.
Though the ferry ride takes about 38 minutes, however when you are surrounded by the mountain's views from Swiss villages and the turquoise water, the journey seems forever. So if you come in by ferry, this is what you will look like:
Iseltwald Bus Station
A small bus station that located within the village of Iseltwald.
There is a playground here when children can kill time while waiting for bus.
There is a small quadrangle infront of the bus station where people can chill around.
There is also information on Iseltwald ta the notice board of the bus station.
Take note that the ONE & ONLY public toilet which located behind the bus station comes with a fee of CHF1.00
But I think it is a good money because the toilet is super clean.
Iseltwald Jetty- Hyun Bin's Jetty
If you had watched the Korean drama "Crash Landing on You" then you will know this iconic spot where the male lead Hyun Bin was playing the piano while the female lead Son Ye Jin was cruising over the Lake Brienz. Thanks to this KDrama, there is an big influx of visitors especially Koreans.
We are here too because we watched the drama and were drawn by the beauty of this place and Interlaken is just next to Iseltwald.
Truly enough, it is such a WOW! WOW! place.
This place is worth a stopover for a few minutes as this spot offers a panoramic view. Don't forget to pose for some photos with the mountains in the background. It just so "post cards" feel.
Due to over whelming visits onto this jetty, Swiss government worried that if too many people step onto this boardwalk, it might collapse due to overweighted. Thus, a gate is placed and a fee of CHF 5.00 to enter this jetty. The money can be used to maintain the jetty and the surrounding, it can also regulate the weight onto the boardwalk and lastly, you and your companions will "owned" this jetty to yourselves only.
The payment can be made via coins or cards well, I feel it ia not worth for the money and the queue and we did not step onto the jetty. We just "ambushed" aside to wait for the moments to snatch some hots when tourists are leaving.
The Square Between the Hyun Bin's Jetty and Iseltwald Ferry Terminal
I am not sure the definite name for this place so I called it as "the square" anyway, you will not miss it. This open square is filled with people.
Well, you see these photos...
Lake Brienz
Every time "Iseltwald" is mentioned, it will link to Lake Brienz which is one of the most stunning turquoise lakes in the country. It is turquoise because the direct source of the water comes from the glaciers. Lake Brienz is the star of the trip to Iseltwald where the village is located along the shore. It's cold in the winter but the lake breeze is so refreshing.
It does feel kind of romantic with my man here.
The whole areas of white mountains contrast so well with turquoise lake.
Schloss Seeburg
Another iconic landmark in this village, the Seeburg castle was originally built in 1907 and was converted into a rehabilitation home since 1927 till today. This castle is not open to people by foot or cars, unless to authorized personnels or vehicles., the only way to admire up close is through the boat tour, it was such an incredible experience.
Here are some photos we took while we were strolling along the shore of Lake Brienz at the road name "Matteli"
Matteli
If you want to see Schloss Seeburg on foot, this area here I think is one of the nicest spots.
Though the castle is far but the whole view is wow.
This area is serene and quiet and far from crowds only a handful of locals who will exchange a nod when passed by or few tourists as we passed by a lodge.
Schorren
This is another scene shot in "Crash Landing onto you."
A pathway next to Lake Brienz
Schorren is a road along the lake and connect up upper hill. So, to be precise, stay on the lower side which is by the lake.
And indeed, this area is also very picturesque, and the best part was there much less crowd because most people only concentrate on the Hyun Bin's Jetty"/
Iseltwald Village
Strolling slowly theough the village with my man is so relaxing.
Time to time, we will stop for a few moments to admire the beautiful the Swiss log houses and buildings.
Our happy times in Iseltwald shall end here with heavy hearts. We love the atmosphere and how we wish we have a house here.
Well, the end of this blog meaning the start of another; coming up next will be "Spiez".
