“To travel deeply is not measured by how far we travel, but how well we see.”
Welcome back to the 5th blog of our trip to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Switzerland
Hope you like my previous blogs on "Interlaken", and here we are going to continue to spread our footprints in the Suisse landscapes at Wengen.
Wengen
Listed on UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Wengen Village is located in Jungfrau region.
Located 400 meters above Lauterbrunnen, It is a thorough car-free village in the mountain as It can only be accessible by Wengernalp Railways. At the height of 1274 meter above sea levels at the foot of Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau.
Perched on a sun-drenched plateau with magnificent views of iconic Swiss mountains like the Jungfrau, Eiger, and Monch, this famously car-free village feels like the perfect dose of Swiss tradition. It's an equally easy journey to reach Wengen from Grindelwald via a train through Lauterbrunnen.
Do you know? : Many pets must be purchased in pairs because owning a pet is deemed as animal abuse of "Loneliness or neglection. If one of the pair died, and you are not ready to buy another one, there is renting service available to abide by the pairing law.
Wengen Train Station
Serviced by Wengernalp Railways, it is the only way to get into Wengen. The cog-wheeled train service is operated purely on electricity.
We took the train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, the ride was pretty short but the scenery is very beautiful.
Wengen is not big, the train station is consider located at the start of the town.
Main Street Dorfstrasse
There is also no road in the village, it feels so secretive and hermit. There are about 1300 people living here, this number will soar up to 10,000 during winter. The most popular months, however, are the snowy months of December to March.
Though it is car -free, there are still some electric generated vehicles for services from the hotels, farms and businesses.
The street is dotted with traditional old log houses. Car-free since 1893, it is so relaxing to walk around here as there are no annoying engines sounds.
The local scenery of Wengen provides views of the entire Alps including the famous Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains.
The whole place can be done in 2 hours, the best of the 2 hours of our lives.
Saint Bernard Angelican Church
Not far from Evangelisch Reformierte Church, there stood Saint Bernard Angeican Church which was built in 1927.
A charming & elegant church tucked quietly in the back of the beautiful Wengen offers a unique and peaceful atmosphere.
Ski Classes
Love this open-air ski school in the middle of nowhere!
It seems this is a junior class, but these kids are rather professional.
Their current heights do not allow them to go higher up.
There are also several youths attending the junior class too.
Evangelisch Reformierte Kirche Wengen
The church was built in 1953 on an elevated position above the railway line to Lauterbrunnen, visible from afar.
The massive plaster building, built in the traditional design has a steep, tiled gable roof. The slightly offset tower with a square floor plan is completed by an octagonal, shingled helmet.
The views from the benches just below the courtyard are breathtaking - another angle of Lauterbrunnen valley.
Wengen Aussichtspunkt View Point
Located right infront of Wengen Church and this viewpoint offers the most panoramic view over Lauterbrunnen.
Our happy times in Wengen end here will all the awesome sights
