Welcome back to the 9th blog of our trip to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Switzerland
Hope you like my previous blogs on Gimmelwald, and here we are going to continue to spread our footprints in the Suisse landscapes.
Just to sidetrack, in case you missed out: Supercalifraglisticexpialidocious - A nonsense word from movie - Mary Poppins - it means something very magnificent, outstanding and wonderful.
Lauterbrunnen AKA "Loud Springs" in German,
Another beautiful Alpine Village with her characteristic, located on the mountain. Lauterbrunnen is located between Murren and Wengen, which we will be exploring today.
Glad that our base is Interlaken, we got a direct train ride to reach here is a mere 20 minutes.
Personally, I saw many beautiful photos on Lauterbrunnen and this place is on my bucket list and now we are here with a stomach full of excitement and expectations. Lauterbrunnen is one of the most popular destinations in Switzerland, the inviting landscapes of high alps and deep valleys which is full scatter with serene villages to have a nice adventure.
And almost everywhere I go in Lauterbrunnen it seems I always hear the sound of water rushing down from the falls. The air is crispy, fresh & moist like the smell of the air after a heavy rain because it is the home of 72 waterfalls here!
Indeed, Lauterbrunnen is one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland. A place where got me blown away.
Do you know (Number 4)? : Switzerland has an actual rule that prohibits work on Sundays and at night. Naturally, certain sectors are exempt from this ban, but employers must get authorization if they want to hire workers on Sundays.
We made the trip to Lauterbrunnen after Gimmelwald so from Gimmelwald station, we took the cable car to Stechelberg station and switch to bus 141 to Lauterbrunnen.
Stechelberg bus station is located a minute walk from Stechelberg cable car station.
Stechelberg Bus Station
This bus station is located in a big car park right opposite of Stechelberg cable car station.
In the car park, there are plenty of tour buses as well as various types of vehicles.
It seems like a temporary bus station.
And by the way, Murrenbach Falls is located next to Stechelberg Bus station.
Remember, in the blog of Murren, I mentioned above that you will meet several mini waterfall on the way from Murren to Gimmelwald ? Those mini waterfalls were the source of this Murrenbach Falls, of course the source from those mini waterfalls were from high mountains.
Heard from the locals that this is the highest waterfall in Switzerland, the water from Murrenbach Falls plummets down from a height of 417 meters.
The waterfall is active throughout the year, but it’s at its most beautiful after the snow melts in the spring.
Lauterbrunnen Ey Bus Stop
We took the bus 141 from Stechelberg bus station and alight at Lauterbrunnen Ey bus stop and our wow wow wow start again!!
Kirche Lauterbrunnen
AKA Lauterbrunnen Church, which is known for its spectacular views of the surrounding high mountains in the beautiful alpine setting. It was built in the Gothic style in the 16TH century so this church is about 500 years old.

Got this photo from Google. |
Staubbach Falls
There are actually 72 waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen and Staubach Falls is the easiest to access as it is located all the way down from the main street.
Getting up close to this waterfall which I have been seeing it from magazines and social medias.
"Staub" means the word "dust" in English, the water fall from the height of 300 meters making it one of the highest waterfalls in Europe. The backdrop is arguably as impressive as the waterfall itself: you can’t fail to notice the sheer, glaciated valley walls. Each night during high season, Staubbach Falls are illuminated, creating a magical effect.
Side Track : Trummelbach Falls is also located in Lauterbrunnen but it usually does not open during winter as there will not be much water falling down. It is accessible though from the beginning of April until November.
Dorfstrasse AKA The Main Street
The main street of Lauterbrunnen, it is not big and easily walk around by foot.
There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, retail stores and small hotels lining up neatly along the main street.
It looks exactly just like from a postcard - a typical Swiss village located in a valley while surrounded by mountains.
****Dorf AKA The Main Street - connect from Bahnhofpl which is right infront of Lauterbrunnen station.
More photos of the pretty village before we head back to Interlaken as my MR is hungry!
Lauterbrunnen Train Station
Opened in 1890 and electrified in 1914, this petite train station is located in the heart of Lauterbrunnen which is connected to Interlaken. From here, there are trains connections to Wengen, Grindelwald, Murren and Kleine Scheidegg.
Once you step out of the train station, the main street is just there.
Our happy times in Lauterbrunenn shall end here, well, the end of this blog meaning the start of another; coming up next will be on the romantic Iseltwald which is the famous piano on the jetty scene in the KDrama - Crash Landing Onto You.
The remaining blogs of Spiez,, Colmar, Lucerne and etc. will be in the queue for publishments.
