Malacca's food hunting trip again 2019

"There's something about a holiday that isn't not about how much money you spent. Holiday is a good opportunity to focus on bringing the family together".

Our last food trip was six months ago, today we are going for another trip again with another new member of the family.

Welcome member number 7 - Troels who is a Dane, he is currently dating Pig and the relationship is as stable as a solid rock that nothing in this earth can tear them apart!

This round, we are leaving in the afternoon of a hot Friday so you can tell that this trip is pretty tight for us... Make the time to the fullest is the moto of this trip!

Except for 2 restaurants where we repeated our visit this round, the rest are thoroughly our first visit. This trip is totally full of loads FUNssss and tons YUMssss.

Again, Alan is engaged to be our driver, for 3 days full service, it cost SGD650 and divided by 7 of us, per person is SGD92 for full 3 days 2 nights service, driving us around (ps: Van is sponsored by 2 big boys). And he will come to Singapore to pick us and drop us back.

He is very reliable and trustworthy man who loves his family very much. A committed family man is always a good man. We felt so comfortable with him.

Interested - WhatsApp him +604-14-379-4174

It was close to 4.30pm when we reached Malacca finally...

The first stop is to fill up our tummies at:
Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup
Address : 53-C, Jalan Ong Kim Wee, 75300 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening Hours : 1630 - 0030

Our previous trip here, we had our satay challenge of who had the most satay and the winners went to Boss and Pig. This picture below is the recap of the challenge 6 months ago.

And today's winner goes to Boss and BF! Well done boys but there is no prize. Hahaha.
Total we had 242 sticks and it cost us RM354 (SGD118)

PS : There are 2 satay celup shops here (side by side) that share 99% resemblance on the name. As per introduced by Alan who is a pure local in Malacca, above place that we went is much preferred by locals. The name of the shop is Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup, the signboard colour is light yellow and the icon of this place is the laughing buddha.

I had spoken to a staff here who told me that Ban Lee Siang was left behind by his eldest brother( they had 14 siblings and this staff is one of the younger ones) and took over by his older brothers. Due to money issues, one of the brother opened up another shop with the same name right beside the original one. This light yellow signboard is the original one.

This notice is telling people that this shop is not related with the shop next door.

Here is the accommodation for the next 2 nights. Though it is 20 minutes walk away from Jonker Street, but it is mere 5 minutes drive away. We have Alan so there is nothing to worry about.

The most important factor of this place is the toilets... each room comes with a toilet... this is very important for us.

The size of the putu piring is the largest I ever seen, almost doubled the usual size. Per piece cost RM1.20 and each comes pipping hot with generous fillings of gula melaka. There is no reason to skip this stop, but be prepare for the long queue!

There are a few kind of packing for the different number of putu piring ordered. For 2-4 pieces, it will be wrapped with a paper, boxes will be given only for more than 5 pieces.
These are the "trophies" received by the shop! Indeed legendary!

30mins of worthful wait for these "to-die-for" taste. It is reallyx100 very tasty, the yummiest I ever had!

九楼油条
Address:120, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening Hours : 2000hrs till sold out

The longest dough fritter in Malacca. It was started by a grandmother and now handed over to daughter in law and grandson... Another legend that gone through 3 generations.
According to the local there, the taste and texture today is like before. Everything here is purely 100% handmade. They prepare the food on the spot, fried on the spot, sell on the spot and you eat on the spot if you can handle the pipping hot!
Whilst stock lasts, it open from 8pm onwards and common to see snakey queues.

This dough fritter is tasty but not "to-die-for". See the size when being put next to the bottle.

Early Saturday morning, we kick off with the start of light breakfast but with good coffee at Kedai Minuman Siang Chiang(香江茶冰室)
Address: 59, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia
Opening Hours : most things sold out by lunch hours.

True enough, it is very aromatic and nice!

I love the special kaya very much.

After we fill up light breakfast here, it is shopping time at a supermarket.
Alan brought us here - Tesco Supermarket Malacca

And here comes our damages ...

Who will say no to the local kuih in Malacca ?
Baba Charlie Nonya Kueh
Address: 72, Lorong Tengkera Pantai 2c, Kampung Tengkera Pantai Dua, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia

We regretted that we bought less on the last trip so now this is a must visit place for us again. Do note that all kuih are hand-made without any preservatives therefore it must eaten by the very day.
If you want a good variety, be at the shop before 10am latest! Then you beat the crowd and the kuehs are all there. Their kuihs are awesome. Ang Koo Kueh is best in the world. Ondeh ondeh bursts and melts in your mouth. The Nonya Chang is beautiful and delicious.

Here are our small damages as all kueh lasts one day and the  bak chang lasts 7days in freezer.

This vivid natural blue food coloring is extracted from the blue flowers of the Butterfly Pea plant.

Here is Malacca, I think I can skip everywhere but never Klebang Nasi Lemak
Address: Lot 130 Solok Kampung Bahagia 75200 Melaka75200 Melaka.

Boss and BF each had 3 packets of nasi lemak while the rest had 2! Small packet that can finished within few mouths but it is very tasty!

Another to-die-for... The coconut vanilla shake.

This Malacca is really very very very very hot!!!
We decided to spend our time indoor... shopping and chilling at  Dataran Pahlawan.

Again, the weather is really very very hot. This round, we came to Old Town Coffee to hide from the harsh sun.

Time to recharge our tummies again, this round we are taking traditional Nonya food at Nancy's Kitchen.

Opening Hours : 1100-1700 for Monday - Thursday / 1100-2100 for Friday - Sunday
The restaurant is constantly packed,It is better for you to make a reservation first before going to avoid disappointment. If you walk in, please write your name on the waitlist book, the wait can be up to 2hrs.

The decoration of this place is very "nonya feel" and we think it is beautiful!

Glad that we made the reservation much earlier as well we pre-ordered the food.
Kitchen started to cook once we arrived...
We ordered 10 dishes and drinks for the 7 of us and it cost us RM287 (SGD96)

1)Top Hat (pat tee)

2)Ngoh Hiang

3)Rendang chicken

4)Nonya chicken curry

5)Bak Pongteh

6)Deep fried soft shell crab

7)Udang Goreng assam

8)Duck with salted veg soup

9)Nonya Chap chye

10)steam seabass in nonya style

We felt that the food are not bad and we are very puzzled on the long queues.
For sure, Malacca do have tastier nonya restaurants here. I look forward to try other restaurant on my next visit.

Next stop, we went to packet our supper, it seems that most of us are not satisfied from our dinner. Alan brought us to a local char kway teow stall here that open only at night, another queueing game. But it is well-worth as the uncle fry it upon each order. The catalyst of this is - pork lard and pork oil!

Malim Yoon Lai Garden House 玛琳云来包点小屋
Address: C610, Jalan Malim Malacca City 75260

Opening Hours: 0700 - 1230  Close on Monday

Inside the façade of this place lies a yummy dim sum restaurant. Very old school feel but the interior is very cozy and clean with super huge varieties of dim sum to choose from!
This place is located next to a huge Chinese graveyard. By the way, the toilet is also very old school. I am glad that Prince and Troels has a taste of "Kampung" life for a couple of hours.

There is no toilet in the restaurant, as this is an old school place, the toilet is also old school type. In the old days, the toilets are built outside of the house.

Time to check out and say good bye to Malacca. We each came in half bag and now we leave this place with countless bags!!!!

We are heading Muar now!
Just 40 minutes away, it is another awesome place where we must visit.

OTAK-OTAK CHENG BOI, 阿梅麻坡烏打
Address: No 28, 4, Jln Bentayan, Taman Sri Emas, 84000 Muar, Johor, Malaysia. Opening Hours: 0800-1600hrs daily except for Wednesday close at 1200hrs

Famous otah shop in Muar that deserve a quick stopover. This shop has one of the best Otah at a very good price. Not to be missed and I always make this an item to bring home.

It's feeding time again! We have 4 "always" hungry boys here. Lunch and coffee at the notorious Sai Kee Kopi Serbok Sdn Bhd - Kopi 434 (才記咖啡粉有限公司)
Address : 121, Jalan Maharani, 84000 Muar, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours : 0830 - 1730hrs

The interior deco has lots of wooden elements.

The shop also serves noodles, rice, cake and kueh, and these are our lunch. And we ordered the signature elephant coffee.

We are stucked in the traffic jam for near 2hrs but it never dampen our mood.. a wefie for us again!

Last meal of the food hunting trip before we cross over the customs.

佳佳乐苦瓜汤
Address : 130, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/3, Taman Sutera Utama, 81300 Skudai, Johor, Malaysia

This is our repeated visit again. Due to we are running late, we decided to visit this eatery for fast service and good food instead of trying other dining choices. This place never fails me at all, we ordered 8 dishes at RM118, which is less than SGD40!
