Sonny behind the wheels.. all the way to Malacca

“Road Tripping With My Two Favorite Allies"

After a few rounds of training in Johor, it's time for Sonny to drive up to Malacca. We have been to Malacca a few times before so I will skip the introduction entirely. May refer to these blogs for more information:

530am, engine started and off we head straight to Tuas Second Link.
It is good that we are here early, previously we reached about 645am, queues were snaking up. Today, jam is expected as it is the first weekend of December, we took 3hrs to reached JB.

Klebang Coconut Shake
Not the first time here and not going to be my last time either.
It is a must to stop by here whenever we are in Malacca.
A cozy and airy dining place with local food that goes along with the coconut shake.
Beside nasi lemak, they also have bee hoon or fried bee siam and some other snacks and kueh to go with.

Putu Piring Generasi Ke
Just 6 minutes' drive away from Klebang.
This is not much known to foreigners, The putu pirings are very taste and affordable. There are four selections to choose from: Original, Choco chips, Durian and Durian Choco chips. Pricing ranges from RM3 - RM5. At least 10 minutes queue is expected.

Guan Huat Seng Seng Kee Sdn Bhd
This famous wholesale dried food and seafood center is very well known to the locals. It started out from a small shop in the 1930s and expanded to a much bigger place.
The shop is spacious, products are neatly displayed, staff are ready to answer your questions, ample parking lots just outside the shop. I am very happy to be here, and the products look good, and I ended up with a few purchases.

Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup
Sonny's all-time favorite hunt and he been waiting to come here. The shop now has an option to purchase a new pot of satay sauce for hygiene purposes. You can bring the leftover satay sauce home too. Great selections of food sticks for customers to choose and cook at the pot of each table. There are 2 shops with same names located right next to each other, both shops are from the same owners, disputes arose between the sons so there are 2 shops, The one I frequent is the one with yellow signboard.

Jonker Street Night Market
There are some new faces here. It is as lively as ever. It is always nice to stroll around this street.

Sand Brewed
Boss been wanting to try this Turkish Coffee. Perfectly located in Jonker Street night market, to be exact it is located at the cooked food section, just beside the Chinese Temple.
It is amazing to watch how the coffee are made right in front of your eyes. Manned by 2 young chaps who are very polite on their services.
Boss said that his black coffee is good and thick, really can boost up metabolism after a hearty dinner but slightly under aroma.

Vegetarian Stinky Tofu
Located along Jonker Street, few units away from San Shu Gong. There is no stinky smell at all that you will not know that there is such shop here. Even when we were queueing to order, there is no smell at all that we start to doubt if it will be tasty or not. When the food serves, the stink is really over-whelming. Crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Boss love it very much.

Low Yong Moh Dim Sum
Boss said he missed the braised chicken feet dearly!!! This place serves one of the best braised chicken feet in his life!! Sonny loves the laid-back ambience of this place, he said that he cannot find this feeling in Singapore. Long list of the menu to choose from! The food is good, the price is good, the staff are good. What else to ask for?

This sweet girl is Sonny's friend who is a local, her name is WeiJin and she also loves to eat too. That's why she is a good gang member.

巷 • 阿嬷好料 Xiang • Ah Ma Ho Liao

Operate from an alley, tables and chairs are set in open setting with an old school ambience.

We were supposed to visit for a coffee after breakfast at Low Yong Moh Dim Sum and we ended up ordering our second breakfast.

Saw something interesting on the menu : HorKarSai means Tiger Bite Lion which is Coffee + Milo and SaiKarHor means Lion Bite Tiger which is Coffee + Tea. I ordered the first one instead and indeed taste good.

Coffee is nice and aromatic. Mee Siam with curry chicken is very tasty. Toast is grilled perfectly. Glad that food is serve fast, price is reasonable, very pleasant dining experience.

The lease is up for this eatery, and they will be moving out end of this month so next time must double check the new address before coming over.

After we finished the meal, a snake of queue is formed. A place that is very well liked by the locals.

Jing Yuan Biscuits & Bakery
Trying something new this round.
Located very close to Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup, this is a traditional Chinese confectionary. Tau Sar Piah & Chicken Floss Piah are the star products here which is the reason I am here. They also have mini sized Tau Sar Piah which they name it as 龙珠饼(Dragon's Pearls).

I bought the regular size Tau Sar Piah which is bigger than the usual ones and taste really good. This Chicken Floss Piah is also very tasty.

Finally, we are back to Johor, we will stop by Tangkak for a break. Tangkak is a town located at the edge of Johor state, bordering Malacca.

Nanyang Kopitiam
A decent and clean place with an extensive menu however, I will not be coming back. Need to change the whole kitchen team I guessed.

Hua Bee Bakery
An old school Chinese confectionary that has been around for decades. Customers come all the way from Penang and Singapore.

The hot favorite item on the menu is Tau Sah Piah which is sold at only specific timing. I came at 1230pm and waited 20 minutes

Wrapping like toilet rolls, this is Heong Piah.

Old Wife's Biscuits which is the favorite of my father and mother-in-law.

Restaurant Soon Kee
Back to Johor Bahru region, the trip is coming to an end. But we must have our dinner first before heading to the checkpoints. Here we are ... Something cooling. The star of the menu is bittergourd soup, they also serve other tze char food as well. Very "homecooked" feel on all the food. Bittergourd soup is flavorful, porkchop is crispy but marination should be longer. Generally decent food with reasonable price. Hubby & Sonny still prefer Kah Kah Loke instead.
May refer to Johor Food Trip to see what we been eating in Johor.

Finally, time to go home, another 3hrs jam before we reached Tuas.
