Malacca Food Trips


          "Keep The Calories Out of Vacations"


Malacca is always one of the top choices for a short getaway for most Singaporeans on road trips. 
This blog will be strictly deliciated to the yummies we had in Malacca only and it will be always updated once we drive all the way into Malacca. The latest ones will always be shown on the top so that I no need to scroll all the way down again and again to update. 
We always love the atmosphere of the old Nonya nostalgic feel, the next important factor is the food here is also another to-die-for. 


We have been visiting Malacca quite regularly therefore those place we came before can be found in my other blogs: 


Here we start our roll callings at the latest collection of the delicacies we had in Malacca: 

三宝井三轮车猪肠粉
This mobile stall is located right infront of the coffeeshop that sells only yam cake and chee cheong fun.
There was a short queue at our arrival. 


There are few stalls of choices in the coffeeshop like WTM.



We ordered few sets of both items to share with and dine inside the coffeeshop. 
There are numerous customers opted for takeaway too. 

During our 30 minutes here, the customers keep coming for takeaway and dine in, it seems the locals love he texture very much. 


The chee cheong fun is very very soft that easily melted in the mouth.
The yam cake is too soft to our taste, it is very watery kind that melt immediately in the mouth.  We prefer the kind with chewier texture than this almost immediate melt texture.
Overall, it is a new experience for us taste this soft texture.


We got a table and ordered some hot drinks here. 
Kopi - O is too watery and the coffee powder is already overused - tasted blander than usual coffee shop. 
Kopi- C is overly sweet though Ms Piggy has a sweet tooth, there is no sense of fragrant at all. 
Mine is kopi siew dai - though it is less sweet, but the coffee smell ought to improve. 




Bibik House Chendol 
The signboard said it all - it sells only chendol and no other kind of dessert, so please do not expect for ice-kang here. 
Either you order the original one or the durian puree one or the full durian one. 
My Mr and myself are not chendol kind of person for dessert but this chendol charmed us totally. 
Love the coconut milk that is not overly rich, even the green jelly is not soggy at all. 









Poh Piah Lwee 

Poh Piah Lwee is a popular family-run store that is located near the historic Jonker Walk. It has been in operation for over 50 years.
The owner is very proud and confident of what he is selling.
This small eatery has limited seats, but the turnover is high. 






Hmmm, this kumquat drink is so perfect for such hot weather. 


Rojak is also very common in Singapore.
It made with juicy and crunchy vegetables and fruits tossed in an appetizing mix of sweet, sour and a hint of chili, and topped with roasted ground peanuts. It looks ugly but it tastes great! 
The rojak here is up to our expectation, all the ingredients seemed really fresh, it is nice. 


Butterfly pea Nonya Dumpling, aside from looking aesthetical, it tastes good too.
The rice is soft, and the meat are well infused with the necessary elements. 
For those who doesn't know what is the meaning of "Nonya", please google for a better understanding.  

Minced pork noodles is simply infused with dark sauce. Overall taste is quite nice. 

Laksa is serve in mini pot, not so big serving that is good so that we can taste few kind of dishes here.
The gravy blended well with the chilli to give a soothing yet spicy mix with the noodles 


Popiah is topped with lard that created a chemical reaction in my mouth. 
The popiah skin is thin but tightly wrapped with the ingredients. 

It is not THAT oily at all and is something not to miss on every table. 




Baba Charlie Cafe
Originally started out from a factory that is located in a small lane, it is only available for take-away.
Despite located in a humble building, it is well visited by throngs of customers including me.
This second outlet is for dine in purpose that is also very crowded with customers.
Aside from the kuehs you can select and purchase, there is also a Zi Char menu if anyone is really hungry. 
For us, we came at about 2pm, we had already had our lunch, and we are here just for the kueh and chill away from the heat outside. 
These are all my favorite kueh, the best is still the odeh odeh that burst and melted in my mouth. 











Baba Charlie Factory 
Google Map: Cannot find as per August 2024 -it is now used for production only and customers will visit the cafe instead as per above.

BeiZhan Chinese Restaurant
Not my first time here, this is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Malacca. 
There is no change in the interior, it is still as big and spacious and clean as before.
Parking is not a problem here, there are plenty of lots. 
Food is on above average side, consider yummy. 





















Restaurant Baba Kaya - One Malaysian Cuisine

This restaurant is located by the river, very old, schooled theme that is perfect for photo taking.
Though the staff here are all very polite and helpful but the food here is suitable to the taste of tourist who are not sure how Malaysian Cuisine should taste like. 













Mee goreng - looks good like the usual mamak stall but taste normal - we expected it to be spicier


Nasi lemak Twin tower - though very pretty but tasteless. Rice is not fragrant at all.


Apom - can eat because the fillings were gula Melaka. 





DeXingLung Kopitiam (德興隆) 
Located near to Jonker Street, this old, schooled eatery is pretty crowded with locals and tourists.
The menu is very simple - they are selling noodles. 
Noodles are chewy, not over cooked that are well flavoured with the sauce.
We add on the prawn cake that is crispy and full of umami taste. 
Toast is well done too, kaya is nice, and butter is considering a good size. 
Coffee and tea are nice too, quite smooth.














聯邦炒果條(Char Kuey teow/hamcheepiah/yaucharkwee)
One of the best char kway teow I ever had. 
Uncle will only start frying non stop from 8pm onwards and each plate is fry only upon request therefore the queue is long and slow. By the way, he has been frying for more than 30 years. 









Though it is oily, anyway CKT is meant to be oily, it comes with rich wok hei and taste really good. 


There is also a stall selling dssert and another selling various type of deep fried fritters. 






Putu Piring Melaka
The best putu piring in Malacca that the queue start the moment it opens.
The queue is even much longer in the night. 














Indeed, it worthed the time for the queue, gula melaka snoozing out from the first bite on the the puffy white kueh.



Klebang Original Coconut Shake

Not the first time here and not going to be my last time either.
It is a must to stop by here whenever we are in Malacca.
A cozy and airy dining place with local food that goes along with the coconut shake. 
Beside nasi lemak, they also have bee hoon or fried bee siam and some other snacks and kueh to go with.

























阿嬷好料  Ah Ma Ho Liao
When we first visited, it was located in a small alley and was called ”巷 • 阿嬷好料 Xiang • Ah Ma Ho Liao“。 Now, it had moved to new premise in Jonker which I have not visited yet. Here are the photos we had here when we visited the old address.  I will update more photos on the new premise on the next visit.





Saw something interesting on the menu : HorKarSai means Tiger Bite Lion which is Coffee + Milo and SaiKarHor means Lion Bite Tiger which is Coffee + Tea. I ordered the first one instead and indeed taste good.  









Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup
A must visit place for people who come Malacca for the first time.
Sonny's all-time favorite hunt and he been waiting to come here. The shop now has an option to purchase a new pot of satay sauce for hygiene purposes. You can bring the leftover satay sauce home too. Great selections of food sticks for customers to choose and cook at the pot of each table. There are 2 shops with same names located right next to each other, both shops are from the same owners, disputes arose between the sons so there are 2 shops, The one I frequent is the one with yellow signboard.























Lung Ann Refreshments
Main core of business here is coffee, and it is superb.
It is nice to add on the toast too. 








Low Yong Moh Restaurant
Hubby said he missed the braised chicken feet dearly!!! This place serves one of the best braised chicken feet in his life!! Sonny loves the laid-back ambience of this place, he said that he cannot find this feeling in Singapore. Long list of the menu to choose from! The food is good, the price is good, the staff are good. What else to ask for?  












This sweet girl is Sonny's friend who is a local, her name is WeiJin and she also loves to eat too. That's why she is a good gang member.




九楼油条 Ng Guan Hai Yu Cha Kuih
The longest dough fritter in Malacca. It was started by a grandmother and now handed over to daughter in law and grandson... Another legend that gone through 3 generations. 
According to the local there, the taste and texture today is like before. Everything here is purely 100% handmade. They prepare the food on the spot, fried on the spot, sell on the spot and you eat on the spot if you can handle the pipping hot! 
Whilst stock lasts, it open from 8pm onwards and common to see snakey queues. 





This dough fritter is tasty but not "to-die-for". See the size when being put next to the bottle. 


Kedai Minuman Siang Chiang(香江茶冰室)  
A popular coffee shop that people patrons because the coffees are really good! We also ordered some toast and simple nasi lemak to go with.


















Nancy's Kitchen
The restaurant is constantly packed,It is better for you to make a reservation first before going to avoid disappointment. If you walk in, please write your name on the waitlist book, the wait can be up to 2hrs. 
Glad that we made the reservation much earlier as well we pre-ordered the food. 
Kitchen started to cook once we arrived...  
We ordered 10 dishes and drinks for the 7 of us and it cost us RM287 (SGD96) 

























Malim Yoon Lai Garden House 玛琳云来包点小屋  
Inside the façade of this place lies a yummy dim sum restaurant. Very old school feel but the interior is very cozy and clean with super huge varieties of dim sum to choose from!
This place is located next to a huge Chinese graveyard. By the way, the toilet is also very old school. I am glad that Prince and Troels has a taste of "Kampung" life for a couple of hours. 
















There is no toilet in the restaurant, as this is an old school place, the toilet is also old school type. In the old days, the toilets are built outside of the house. 





Bunga Raya Popiah
Mobile stall along the busy road. RM5 per piece. Big piece. 
Popiah is a common snack for we Singaporean and is my mum most favourite snack. 
This stall, added a big spoonful of crispy pork lard into it as well. 
Eat it when it is hot.... it taste different from what I usual had. 
Most of us thinks that it is very oily, overdosed 
The rest of us like it ... but it is very bad for health... 






The Huskitory

Reservation is recommended. Per session is 90mins, per person at RM20.00 (entitled a magnet), no drink included as the dogs might drink it or accidentally swing it to the floor by their powerful tails.
Upon entry, we will be shown to our designated table with our name, staff will brief us about Huskies. There are 3 sessions of meeting the huskies; 1) Meet & play the adult huskies  2) Meet & play the 6months old ones 3) Meet & see the 3weeks old babies.

These huskies are not only well trained, they are well loved too.  Some of them 来头不小, won alot medals in dog shows & competition. Their medals are on displays
Seeing how attached they are to the staffs, you can tell their bonds are very deep.
Staff are friendly & accommodating. They are always there if you want a up-close personal photo with the dogs or friendly advise on your personal dogs even if you do not own a husky.

The leader of the pack of huskies is not a husky... it is a japanese spitz mix with pomeranian whose name is 小白 who always bully the rest. 小白 grew up with huskies and she think she is a husky.
Among the pack, there is a rare pure white one named Maya.



















Putu Piring Generasi Ke 3 Limbongan
This is not much known to foreigners, The putu pirings are very taste and affordable.There are four selections to choose from: Original, Choco chips, Durian and Durian Choco chips. Pricing ranges from RM3 - RM5. At least 10 minutes queue is expected. 
Just 6 minutes' drive away from Klebang. 






Vegetarian Stinky Fried Tofu - Jonker Walk Night Market 素食臭豆腐 (马六甲文化街夜市)

Located along Jonker Street, few units away from San Shu Gong. There is no stinky smell at all that you will not know that there is such shop here. Even when we were queueing to order, there is no smell at all that we start to doubt if it will be tasty or not. When the food serves, the stink is really over-whelming. Crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Boss love it very much. 



Long Hiang Coffeeshop
A big coffee shop in Bukit Cina that open super early and sells many many true blue local tastes.
We have a group of 8 so we ordered quite many foods to taste and we all ended up rubbing our stomachs happily. 























BESS Kopitiam ( Pork Free Restaurant )
Great place for breakfast.
The coffee is the best I had in Malacca.
Laksa, no horse run... probably one of the best in Malacca.
Nasi Lemak with additional fried chicken is superb that Sonny ordered 2nd serving.
The fried chicken, to our surprise is very tender & soft.
I like this place very much and hopefully I have the chance to visit again.











Restoran Dong Fung 東方茶園
We are here for the WTM which is very "geng", it opens at 2100hrs & will only close the stall when food are sold out. Usually around 0100hrs, they started to close. This is a "4hr wan tan mee stall"
Simple WTM do not taste simple afterall as everyone is praising it. 
Popiah is considered good here too. 













Jonker Street Kopitiam

Located few minutes away from Jonker Night Market, this kopitiam is a good place to get away from crowds in the Jonker area.
There are many stalls here selling local foods that are very tasty and cost lesser than many commercial dining outlets in Malacca.
